Lithuania is among the top five countries with the largest number of hot-air balloons and balloon pilots per thousand residents. Hop on and enjoy the city from above – it’s that easy!
For years there has been hot air balloon festivals in Lithuania, they're often associated with the idea of celebrating freedom.
"The first hot air balloon festival was in 1988 during Soviet times when flying balloons was formally forbidden, but no one could keep us on the ground," organiser Gintaras Surkus, a pioneer of the activity in Lithuania.
If you travel in a balloon in spring, you can admire the city’s blooming gardens; if it’s summer, you can count the tourists sitting on the pavements outside cafés; and autumn, with it's colours, the scenery will leave you breathless.
Vilnius is Europe’s only capital city that does not prohibit hot-air balloons from taking off from the city centre!
